Technically you could try backfiring Stretch Time in the Grimoire, but in general clot is not that much of a hassle (i.e. it is not worth stressing over). you could try saving before you click and just refreshing if you get a clot. i used to do that but stopped because in the long run clots are helpful for the 7777 golden cookie achievement.

The Grimoire is seeded, meaning that if you press a spell then reset, you'll get the exact same spell effect again.The best way to progress is golden cookie combos. When you get a Frenzy, you want to wait until it's almost run out, at this point another golden cookie will spawn and by summoning FtHOF in the grimoire you can have 3 effects at once. You're hoping for Frenzy+Click Frenzy+something else (like a building special).
